Easy, flavorful baked teriyaki salmon marinated in a sweet and savory homemade teriyaki sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 pounds salmon fillet, skin on or off
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1/4 cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
- 2 tablespoons sake (or dry sherry)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated (fresh preferred)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced, for garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, and sake (or sherry). Add brown sugar and honey, whisking until dissolved. Stir in minced garlic, grated ginger, red pepper flakes (if using), and sesame oil.
- Marinate the Salmon: Pat salmon dry. Place in a shallow dish or resealable bag. Pour marinade over salmon, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to 2 hours.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
- Bake the Salmon: Remove salmon from marinade (discard marinade). Place on prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until salmon flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
- (Optional) Broil: For extra glaze, broil for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over rice, quinoa, or noodles. Offer lemon wedges, if desired.
Notes
- For a less sweet sauce, reduce brown sugar and honey.
- Add more red pepper flakes or sriracha for extra spice.
- Serve with steamed vegetables like broccoli, asparagus, or green beans.
- Use tamari instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free option.
- Air Fryer Option: Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place marinated salmon in the air fryer basket and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through.
