  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

Café Brûlot is a warm, spiced coffee drink featuring dark roast coffee, brandy, and orange liqueur, enhanced with aromatic spices. Ideal for cozy evenings or festive occasions, it’s topped with whipped cream and nutmeg for a luxurious finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee (preferably dark roast)
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Grand Marnier or Cointreau)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 23 whole cloves
  • 1 orange peel (a strip, about 2 inches long)
  • 1 lemon peel (a strip, about 2 inches long)
  • Whipped cream (for garnish, optional)
  • Ground nutmeg (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew a strong cup of coffee using a dark roast. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Gather all ingredients: brandy, orange liqueur, sugar, cinnamon stick, cloves, and orange and lemon peels.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine brandy, orange liqueur, and sugar. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves (2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the cinnamon stick, whole cloves, and orange and lemon peels to the saucepan.
  5. Slowly pour in the brewed coffee while stirring gently to combine.
  6. Increase heat slightly and bring to a gentle simmer for 5-7 minutes to meld flavors.
  7. Remove from heat. Optionally strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove spices and peels.
  8. Pour the Café Brûlot into heatproof mugs or cups.
  9. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with ground nutmeg, if desired. Garnish with a twist of orange or lemon peel.
  10. Enjoy the warm, aromatic drink, savoring the complex flavors.
