Scale
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 3/4 cup sugar (brown sugar can be used for a richer flavor)
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth, leaving a few small chunks for texture if desired.
- Add the melted butter to the mashed bananas and mix well.
- Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the banana mixture and stir to combine.
- Add the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Gently fold in the flour until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Fold in the chocolate chips, reserving a handful for topping if desired.
- Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray. Optionally, line the bottom with parchment paper.
- Dust the greased pan with flour or cocoa powder for added flavor and texture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
- If reserved, sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 60-65 minutes, checking for doneness at the 55-minute mark with a toothpick.
- Once baked, let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice the banana bread with a serrated knife to your desired thickness.
- Serve plain or with butter, cream cheese, honey, or maple syrup.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze slices for up to 3 months.
