Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of strong brewed coffee (cooled)
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of instant coffee granules (optional, for extra coffee flavor)
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture is hot but not boiling. You want to dissolve the sugar and cocoa powder completely.
- Once the mixture is hot, remove it from the heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- If youre using instant coffee granules, add them now along with the vanilla extract. Stir until everything is well combined.
- In a large mixing bowl, pour in the cooled brewed coffee.
- Slowly add the warm chocolate mixture to the coffee, stirring gently to combine. Make sure to mix thoroughly so that the flavors meld together beautifully.
- Once combined, let the mixture cool to room temperature.
- In a separate mixing bowl, pour in the remaining heavy cream (if you have any left from the earlier step).
- Using an electric mixer, whip the cream on medium speed until soft peaks form (about 3-5 minutes).
- Continue whipping until you reach stiff peaks, being careful not to over-whip.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate-coffee mixture using a spatula.
- Transfer the combined mixture into individual serving glasses or a large serving bowl.
- Cover with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
- Once chilled, remove the dessert from the refrigerator and scoop into individual serving dishes if needed.
- Top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder.
- Optionally, add a fresh mint leaf for garnish.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- You can use different types of chocolate chips, such as dark or milk chocolate, depending on your preference.
- For a more intense coffee flavor, increase the amount of instant coffee granules.
- Try adding a splash of coffee liqueur for an adult twist on this dessert.
- For a lighter version, you can substitute half of the heavy cream with whipped coconut cream.
