Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for whipped cream)
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries) for garnish
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well blended.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Grease and flour an 8-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
  11. Beat on medium-high speed until soft peaks form (about 3-5 minutes). Avoid overwhipping.
  12. Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.
  13. Once cooled, cut the dessert into squares or rectangles.
  14. Place a square on a serving plate, warm or at room temperature.
  15. Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
  16. Garnish with fresh berries and optional chocolate shavings or sprinkles.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is softened for easy creaming with sugar.
  • For a richer flavor, consider using dark cocoa powder.
  • The dessert can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
