Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail on or off, your preference!)
- 4 tablespoons butter, unsalted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup dry white wine (like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio), optional
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice, fresh
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice preference)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Cooked pasta or rice, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp: If frozen, thaw shrimp completely under cold running water. Pat dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and black pepper.
- Make the Garlic Parmesan Sauce: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add olive oil.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant, being careful not to burn.
- If using, add white wine and simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the alcohol to evaporate.
- Stir in lemon juice and red pepper flakes.
- Stir in grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
- Cook the Shrimp: Add seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until pink, opaque, and cooked through. Do not overcook. Cook in batches if needed.
- Remove from heat and stir in chopped fresh parsley.
- Serve: Serve immediately over cooked pasta or rice, if desired. Garnish with extra grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes, if desired.
Notes
- Spice it up: Add more red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper.
- Add vegetables: Broccoli, asparagus, or bell peppers work well.
- Use different herbs: Try basil, oregano, or thyme.
- Make it creamy: Add a splash of heavy cream or half-and-half.
- Serve as an appetizer: Serve with toothpicks.
- Make it ahead of time: Prepare the sauce up to 2 days in advance.
- Shrimp size matters: Adjust cooking time accordingly.
- Don’t overcrowd the pan: Cook in batches.
- Fresh is best: Use fresh garlic and lemon juice.
- Serving Suggestions: Serve over pasta (linguine, fettuccine, spaghetti), rice (white rice, brown rice, risotto), with crusty bread, as an appetizer, or with a side salad.
- Storage Instructions: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave.
