- In a small bowl or jar, combine equal parts of honey and hot water. For example, if you use ½ cup of honey, mix it with ½ cup of hot water.
- Stir until the honey is completely dissolved.
- Let it cool down to room temperature, and store any leftover syrup in the fridge for up to a month.
- Grab a cocktail shaker (or a mason jar with a lid).
- Fill the shaker with ice cubes, about halfway.
- Pour in 2 oz of bourbon or rye whiskey.
- Add 1 oz of fresh lemon juice (preferably freshly squeezed).
- Add ¾ oz of the prepared honey syrup.
- Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds.
- Grab a chilled cocktail glass or an old-fashioned glass.
- If you chilled the glass with ice water, empty it.
- Using a fine mesh strainer or the built-in strainer of your shaker, pour the cocktail mixture into the glass.
- Garnish with a lemon twist or slice if desired.
