Ingredients
Scale
- 4 ripe tomatoes, diced
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1–2 jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
Instructions
- Wash the Vegetables: Rinse all fresh produce under cold running water to remove dirt and pesticides.
- Dice the Tomatoes: Cut tomatoes into small, even-sized pieces. Scoop out seeds if you prefer a less watery salsa.
- Chop the Onion: Peel and finely chop the onion. Soak in cold water for a few minutes if sensitive to onions.
- Mince the Garlic: Mince garlic cloves finely using a garlic press or knife.
- Prepare the Jalapeños: Slice jalapeños in half, remove seeds and membranes for milder salsa, and finely chop.
- Chop the Cilantro: Rinse cilantro, shake off excess moisture, and chop coarsely.
- Combine the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine diced tomatoes, chopped onion, minced garlic, chopped jalapeños, and cilantro. Mix gently.
- Add Lime Juice: Squeeze lime juice over the mixture, rolling the lime beforehand for maximum juice.
- Season with Spices: Add ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
- Optional Olive Oil: Drizzle in olive oil for a richer flavor, if desired, and mix again.
- Chill the Salsa: Cover the bowl or transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
- Taste and Adjust: After chilling, taste and adjust lime juice, salt, or add a pinch of sugar if needed.
- Choose Your Serving Dish: Select a bowl that complements your party theme for serving.
- Garnish: Garnish with sprigs of cilantro or a slice of lime for an appealing presentation.
- Pair with Dippers: Serve with tortilla chips, fresh veggies, or as a topping for tacos or grilled meats.
