Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80/20 for flavor)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown, your choice)
- 1 cup steamed broccoli (or any vegetable of your choice)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. A non-stick skillet is recommended for easy cleanup.
- Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it up into smaller pieces as it cooks. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the beef is browned and no longer pink.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet, tilting it slightly and using a spoon to remove the fat without losing any beef.
- In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Pour the sauce over the cooked ground beef in the skillet. Stir well to coat the beef with the sauce and let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes.
- While the beef is simmering, prepare your rice according to package instructions. A rice cooker can make this process easier.
- Steam your choice of vegetables, such as broccoli, bell peppers, snap peas, or carrots. If using frozen vegetables, steam them according to package instructions.
- Start by placing a generous scoop of rice at the bottom of each bowl.
- Add a hearty portion of the ground beef mixture on top of the rice, ensuring to include some sauce.
- Add your steamed vegetables on the side or on top of the beef.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
- Serve the Korean Ground Beef Bowls warm. Additional toppings like kimchi, sriracha, or a fried egg can enhance the flavor.
- Store leftovers in airtight containers in the fridge for about 3-4 days. Reheat before serving.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness or spiciness of the sauce to your taste by modifying the brown sugar and red pepper flakes.
- For a healthier option, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
- Consider adding more veggies like bell peppers, zucchini, or spinach to the beef mixture while cooking.
