Description
A refreshing Watermelon Margarita, perfect for summer! Made with fresh watermelon puree, tequila, lime juice, and agave, this cocktail is easy to customize and a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups cubed seedless watermelon, chilled
- 1 cup silver tequila
- ½ cup orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec)
- ½ cup fresh lime juice, plus more to taste
- ¼ cup agave nectar, plus more to taste
- 2 tablespoons coarse salt (for rimming glasses)
- Lime wedges, for garnish
- Watermelon wedges, for garnish (optional)
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Cube the chilled watermelon and blend until smooth. Strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve for the smoothest texture (optional, but recommended). Discard the solids.
- In a large pitcher, combine the watermelon puree, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and agave nectar. Stir well.
- Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness and tartness to your preference. Add more agave nectar if too tart, or more lime juice if too sweet.
- For the best flavor, chill the margarita mixture in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Pour the coarse salt onto a small plate. Moisten the rim of each margarita glass with a lime wedge. Gently dip the moistened rim into the salt, rotating to coat evenly. Shake off excess salt.
- Fill each prepared glass with ice cubes. Pour the chilled margarita mixture into each glass. Garnish with a lime wedge and, if desired, a watermelon wedge. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Spicy Margarita: Add a few slices of jalapeño to the watermelon puree while blending.
- Frozen Margarita: Blend the margarita mixture with ice for a frozen treat.
- Watermelon Agua Fresca: Omit the tequila and orange liqueur for a non-alcoholic version.
- Make Ahead: Watermelon puree can be made up to 2 days in advance. The margarita mixture (without ice) can be mixed up to 24 hours in advance.
- Choosing Watermelon: Look for a creamy yellow field spot, a hollow sound when thumped, and a weight that feels heavy for its size.
- Troubleshooting:
* Too Tart: Add more agave nectar.
* Too Sweet: Add more lime juice.
* Too Weak: Add more tequila.
* Too Strong: Add more watermelon puree or lime juice.
* Watery: Use less ice or a riper watermelon.
